Die CDU im Saarland hat ihren Landesvorsitzenden Stephan Toscani zum Spitzenkandidaten für die Landtagswahl im kommenden April gewählt. Bei einer Landesvertreterversammlung in Eppelborn bekam der 59-Jährige nach Parteiangaben am Freitagabend 91,3 Prozent der Stimmen. Toscani ist seit 2022 CDU-Landes- und Fraktionsvorsitzender im Saarland. Er ist damit Oppositionsführer im Landtag.
Im Saarland wird am 18. April 2027 ein neuer Landtag gewählt. Seit der Wahl im Jahr 2022 regiert dort die SPD von Ministerpräsidentin ist Anke Rehlinger mit absoluter Mehrheit allein. Im Saarbrücker Landtag ist neben der SPD und der CDU nur die AfD vertreten.
