EU-Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen reist am Sonntag zu einem zweitägigen Besuch nach Grönland. Sie will dort eine Vereinbarung über eine engere Zusammenarbeit mit der EU unterzeichnen. Am Sonntag steht zunächst eine Bootstour auf dem Programm. Am Montag folgen Treffen mit Grönlands Regierungschef Jens-Frederik Nielsen, der dänischen Regierungschefin Mette Frederiksen und dem Premierminister der Farörerinseln, Beinir Johannesen.
Grönland ist als autonome Region ein Teil des Königreichs Dänemark, nicht aber der EU. Die riesige Arktisinsel war Anfang des Jahres wegen wiederholter Drohungen von US-Präsident Donald Trump in den Fokus gerückt. Trump drohte, die USA könnten Grönland übernehmen. Dänemark und die EU wiesen dies scharf zurück.
