Sieben Jahre nach Samsung: Apple stellt faltbares iPhone vor
Apple hat erstmals ein faltbares iPhone vorgestellt. Der neue Konzernchef John Ternus präsentierte das neue iPhone Duo am Mittwoch am Apple-Sitz in Cupertino im US-Bundesstaat Kalifornien. Der Konkurrent Samsung bietet bereits seit rund sieben Jahren ein faltbares Handy an.
Das iPhone Duo soll ab dem 23. Oktober in 70 Ländern angeboten werden, darunter auch Deutschland. Ternus sagte, es habe ein "großes Display, das sich so natürlich und intuitiv anfühlt wie beim iPad". Der Einstiegspreis soll bei 1999 Dollar liegen (rund 1720 Euro), der genaue Euro-Preis ist allerdings noch nicht bekannt. Das Galaxy Z Fold8 von Samsung ist bereits ab 1650 Dollar zu haben.
Das iPhone Duo verfügt über ein 7,6-Zoll-Innendisplay und ein 5,4-Zoll-Außendisplay und unterstützt die Fingerabdruck-Erkennung Touch ID.
Faltbare Smartphones sind ein Nischenmarkt, sie stehen weltweit für weniger als zwei Prozent der ausgelieferten Geräte. Das Marktforschungsunternehmen IDC rechnet jedoch damit, dass Apple sich bis Ende des Jahres gut 30 Prozent des Marktes sichern kann und bis zum kommenden Jahr 40 Prozent.
Ternus hatte den Chefposten bei Apple vor rund einer Woche von dem langjährigen Vorstandsvorsitzenden Tim Cook übernommen. Der 51-jährige Ingenieur Ternus ist seit 25 Jahren bei Apple tätig und leitete zuletzt den Bereich Hardware-Entwicklung. Der 65-jährige Cook bleibt Apple als Verwaltungsratsvorsitzender erhalten.
