حقق الألماني ألكسندر زفيريف المصنّف الثاني عالميا لقب بطولة الولايات المتحدة المفتوحة، آخر البطولات الأربع الكبرى في كرة المضرب، بتخطيه الأميركي بن شيلتون 6-3 و7-6 (7-2) و5-7 و6-2 الأحد على ملعب آرثر آش في نيويورك.
وحقّق المصنّف الأول في البطولة بغياب الإيطالي يانيك سينر، لقبه الثاني في الغراند سلام، والأول في الولايات المتحدة بعد خسارته نهائي عام 2020 أمام النمسوي دومينيك تيم.
وواصل زفيريف موسمه الناجح على صعيد الغراند سلام، فإضافة إلى لقب فلاشينغ ميدوز، كان قد حقق لقب رولان غاروس أيضا، وحلّ وصيفا في ويمبلدون وبلغ نصف نهائي بطولة أستراليا المفتوحة مطلع العام.
