رفع الاحتياطي الفدرالي الأميركي أسعار الفائدة ربع نقطة مئوية الأربعاء، وذلك في أول زيادة من نوعها منذ ثلاث سنوات، ضمن مساعي المصرف لمواجهة التضخم المرتفع، في إجراء يتوقع أن يثير غضب الرئيس دونالد ترامب.
وصوّتت اللجنة الفدرالية للسوق المفتوحة بالإجماع على رفع أسعار الفائدة إلى نطاق يتراوح بين 3,75% و4,00%، مشيرة إلى مستويات التضخم "المرتفعة"، ومعتبرة أن هذا الإجراء سيسهم في "العودة في وقت أقرب" إلى هدفها البالغ 2% للتضخم.
وتوقع المصرف المركزي الأميركي أن يرفع معدلات الفائدة مرة أخرى قبل نهاية العام، فيما رفع توقعاته للتضخم والنمو خلال السنة الجارية.
