Swift, Simmons star as Bears maul Seahawks
D'Andre Swift rushed for three touchdowns as the Chicago Bears overpowered the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 in a statement road victory over the reigning Super Bowl champions on Monday.
Chicago running back Swift scored all three of his touchdowns in the second half at Seattle's Lumen Field, two of them coming in the fourth quarter as the Seahawks threatened a comeback.
A rampant Chicago defense led by newly signed defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons also helped shut down Seattle's offense.
Simmons, traded to the Bears last week from the Tennessee Titans, enjoyed a dream debut with six tackles and a sack.
"I'm so excited to be a Chicago Bear man," Simmons told ESPN.
"This is just the beginning. We've got some stuff to clean up but it's a good football team and I’m happy to be a part of it."
Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams finished with 247 passing yards with 24-of-34 completions and one touchdown.
Swift had 69 yards from 27 carries for his three touchdowns.
Seattle fell to 4-4 to lose further ground in the NFC West behind San Francisco (6-1).
The Bears set the tone for an impressive win in the first quarter when Williams led a 17-play 80-yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Luther Burden.
Seattle kicker Jason Myers got Seattle's first points with a 27-yard field goal but Chicago responded with back-to-back three-pointers from Cairo Santos to leave the Bears 13-3 up.
Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold found Jaxon Smith-Njigba with a 43-yard pass to leave Seattle only four points adrift at the break.
But Swift capped another long Chicago drive to score his first touchdown in the third quarter and give the Bears a comfortable 20-9 lead.
Seattle responded with a Cooper Kupp touchdown early in the fourth quarter but Chicago's defense took over and Swift bagged two touchdowns to seal victory.
